We repair Bleachers

We Fix Telescopic Bleacher Systems

Bleacherman is an industry pioneer in repairing, recycling and remanufacturing of telescopic bleacher seating. With very few exceptions*, just about any make or model of retractable bleachers can be made to look and operate “as new” or better than new.

If your bleachers are showing their age, with cracked and broken boards, faulty operation and a generally scuffed up and run down appearance, you may think that it’s time to get rid of them. After decades of hard use, perhaps brand new folding bleachers would be the wisest choice?

Actually, no.

Even if your bleachers are cosmetically challenged, the steel framework that is underneath (the “understructure”) is probably OK – or can be made OK with modest repairs. There’s a very good chance that the existing understructure is of higher quality (stronger with more support columns) than the understructure that is manufactured for today’s telescopic bleacher systems.

Because the understructure is not visible to the layperson (and perhaps its function and operation are not well-understood either) many schools make the same mistake: discarding an old understructure and replacing it with a modern one that is much less sturdy. Ultimately, the school pays too much for flimsy new bleachers that are even more prone to breakdowns and sagging.

Bleacherman offers an alternative.

If you own or are responsible for telescopic bleacher seating, choose to recycle your bleachers and discover how you can:

  • Save up to 30% or more versus the cost of purchasing new bleacher seating
  • Have bleachers that will never sag
  • Enjoy long-term trouble-free operation
  • Be protected by a 20-year Warranty (covering parts and labor)

*The Exception to the Rule.

The vast majority of the telescopic bleacher systems we encounter are excellent candidates for recycling and reconditioning.

However. there is one type of bleacher that should be discarded, because there is no feasible way to make these safe.

We do not repair “Slant-style” bleachers manufactured by Horne and Universal.

Bleachers that fold up into a slanted bank (see below) can not be recycled or reused.

Bleacherman recommends saving the lumber and discarding the understructure of this “slant” type of bleacher. This type of bleacher can pose a safety hazard, because of the openings in front of and behind the footboard.

A child or adult could slip and fall through these openings.
Up-to-date code compliant bleachers have these openings closed off with toeboards and heelboards (known as a “closed deck” system).

Ask about Evergreen Bleachers™ from Bleacherman, if you are replacing “Slant-style” bleachers.

Old Bleachers Are New Again

Bleacherman goes through a multi-step operation to repair and recondition telescopic bleachers:

  • The entire understructure (and area below the bleachers) is thoroughly cleaned and evaluated.
  • Seatboards and risers are removed for refinishing (if wood)
  • Understructure is repaired as needed (Rowlocks, wheels, support columns and swaybars are checked. bent/broken pieces are replaced )
  • End safety rails are installed.
  • Reinstall seats and risers
  • Refurbish/recondition footboard/heelboard/toeboard area.
  • Install Century Design® system to prevent sagging.
  • Add “P” rails and non-skid aisle-level steps
  • Motorize sections for “one touch” controls.
  • Provide training video on proper operation of bleachers
  • Presentation of warranty certificate

The Older, The Better

Bleachers that were manufactured in the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s are typically of excellent quality, with husky understructures of heavy gauge metal. Many of the bleachers from this era have multiple vertical support columns – up to four “horses” in a 16-ft section - so they are stronger than the understructure found in today’s newly-manufactured bleachers.

Making Bleachers Last, with the Century Design® System

The Century Design® System (available ONLY from Bleacherman) provides the continuous support that bleachers need, in order to keep them from sagging. With this ingenious system in place, any weight or downward load is transmitted to the floor without damaging the bleachers.

Century Design. It’s named that, because Telescopic Bleacher Systems retrofitted with this patented design can last for one hundred years.
